How about accessing your mail archives from a mobile device, for a reason?
FWIW this, for me, is the ONLY reason I want to use IMAP. But I find
it's not a good enough reason to go through the pain of converting all
my folders to one type in order to do it. Anything important, I can
just write a procmail rule to forward to my gmail account.
Indeed.
My mail flow goes: suck from my mail server with POP, file locally,
forward important messages to my "for my phone" IMAP accessable account.
My filing rules do that automatically for certain things and my mutt
settings do it for: any message to which I reply (original and reply
forwarded) and any message I flag (flags the messages, forwards a copy
to the phone). And when I say "forward" I mean "bounce" in mutt terms.
