I've yet to see anything to fix, having used mbox format exclusively

since the 1980s, with mutt since the late 90s. It just effortlessly

works with complete reliability - never a hiccup.

My mail directory currently contains 1352 mboxes, a few with upwards of

25,000 mails. The prospect of a few million mail files rather repels

me from considering maildir. Especially when it wouldn't add anything

of use here.

I occasionally have two instances of mutt open on the same mbox. That

has never posed a problem either. Mutt warns of external modification.

This topic recurs once or twice a decade, lasts a week, reaches no conclusion,
and then there's peace again for years. The concerns are still not clear to me,
though.
