Russ,

Just went through this exact scenerio with the same MediaMVP on an existing
Debian set-up. You'll need to drop the / from /dongle.bin in your dnsmasq.conf
dhcp-options sections. It should just read ,dongle.bin because it's sitting in
the root of your tftpboot directory.

Also, if you're running a firewall, you'll need to make sure ports 67 & 68 are
open to local traffic and that you have rules allowing dhcp traffic to and from
local as well. The latter will vary depending on which firewall you're running.

Hope that help!

/Mike

Subj: [Mvpmc-users] What's the trick to bootp dnsmasq/atftpd combo ya daya da

I'm totally frustrated. Yes, I'm a noob. I can't get the thing to load
dongle.bin.mvpmc.

Here is the situation:

MediaMVP:
   Model 86001 Rev D3A Lot 4803
   Splash screen says Rev1.0.

I have an existing dnsmasq setup I want to keep running on a gentoo box.
I have added atftpd for mvpmc.

Here are relevant file configuration settings etc:

/etc/dnsmasq.conf:
    dhcp-host=00:0d:fe:00:7e:42,net:mvpmc1,192.168.1.200,infinite
    dhcp-mac=mvpmc1, 00:0d:fe:00:7e:42
    dhcp-boot=net:mvpmc1,/dongle.bin.mvpmc,guro,192.168.1.5
    dhcp-option=mvpmc1,17,"/home/mvp,rsize=4096,size=4096,nolock"

/etc/conf.d/atftp
    TFTPD_ROOT="/datafiles/tftproot"
TFTPD_OPTS="--daemon --user nobody --group nobody --verbose=7\
      --retry-timeout 12"

$ ls -l /datafiles/tftproot:
-rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 2499104 Oct 6 17:47 dongle.bin.hauppauge
-rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 2320448 Oct 8 23:58 dongle.bin.mvpmc
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 40 Oct 9 00:34 dongle.bin.mvpmc.ver

When I plug in the MediaMVP, the splash screen shows
   "Contacting DHCP Server" quickly
Then "Loading Application..." for a while
   Then Contacting DHCP Server (flashing)
With an occasional "Loading Application..." in between flashing
Then back to "Loading Application..." for a while
   And repeats

While all this is happening, I see this in my syslog:
    Oct 11 00:23:05 [dnsmasq] DHCPDISCOVER(eth0) 00:0d:fe:00:7e:42
    Oct 11 00:23:05 [dnsmasq] DHCPOFFER(eth0) 192.168.1.200
00:0d:fe:00:7e:42
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] timeout: retrying...
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] Maximum number of threads reached: 100
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] Server thread exiting
    Oct 11 00:23:05 [dnsmasq] DHCPDISCOVER(eth0) 00:0d:fe:00:7e:42
    Oct 11 00:23:05 [dnsmasq] DHCPOFFER(eth0) 192.168.1.200
00:0d:fe:00:7e:42
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] Maximum number of threads reached: 100
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] Server thread exiting
Oct 11 00:23:05 [atftpd] timeout: retrying...

With an occasional:
    Oct 11 00:15:09 [atftpd] Serving /dongle.bin.mvpmc to 192.168.1.200:3909

I'm at my wits end. Can anyone give me a clue??

Thanks
Russ Krayer
