I'm using the daily build from 12-16-2006 and everything is working great.
The problem is with video fitting the screen. If I use the presets under
options the aspect ratio looks great but it extends 2 or more inches beyond
the right side of the screen, the left side is pretty close but also a bit
beyond.
So I use the VLC settings and add padding to the left and right sides until
the video fits the screen. The problem then is that the video doesn't scale
down as I move the sides in, in other words the height stays the same and
the picture ends up being a little bit squashed horizontally and somewhat
stretched on the vertical.
I've been messing around a lot with the sout > transcode > advanced options
in VLC but I can't seem to find anything that works with everthing. I can
get one video looking good, but some of the files I get are 4:3 some are
16:9 and some are others and even if the aspect is the same the video size
is different.
If I recall the presets from Robin Rawson-Tetley's additions do a good job
even with different video sizes and ratios.
So basically my question is; what exactly are those settings and how can I
use them with the addition of some padding on the left and right to center
the video and not have things chopped from the edges, while maintaining the
correct aspect ratio of the source file?
