I understand about the external amp and all as this is what I do on my 
theater system as well.

But, in other areas where we have 'plain jane' tvs (and the mvp attached), 
the percieved volume in different applications on the mvp seem at different 
audible levels.

When I am watching live tv vs. when I am watching a recording vs when I am 
litening to music via nfs the sound level 'seems' to be different to me 
which means that if the sound is too loud I can use mvp remote to set the 
sound level down, but if the sound is too soft, I have to go find the tv 
remote to up the volume on the set as the mvp is already maxed out. I know a 
lot of this is how my ear is interpreting the audio level and technically 
they all may be the same.

I hope this clarifies.

To me the easiest approach would be a command line switch, but I understand 
the hesitance to add more to that. Just an idea.
