    Thanks for the reply. I've also found "lanstream" which seems like I 
could modify to make it do what I want. Perhaps even make it listen on a 
socket (should be able to do that I would think?) to accept commands to 
control the playback, etc.. This would be ideal for my situation.   I'll 
go ahead and post it over on the dev list though and get some feedback..
