I think with a D3A hardware revision that is difficult to pull off, as 
the mvpmc startup code is dependent on the BOOTP server being specified 
via DHCP. (With the newer hardware it sends out a broadcast message to 
locate the boot server.)

This can be done, though a little tricky. You need to set up the DHCP 
server on the Linux box to only hand out addresses for machines with a 
MAC address matching the MVP, and from an IP range that doesn't overlap 
with the IP range being handed out by your router. Although for this to 
work I think you also need to configure the router to specifically 
ignore the MVP, and your router's DHCP configuration probably isn't that 
flexible.

In the end you may find it is just simpler to disable the DHCP server on 
the router and replace it with the DHCP server running on the Linux box.
