Mythdora is just a packaging scheme, so I wouldn't expect it to impact 
the encoding format. What will impact it is the type of video capture 
card you have, and whether you are performing any transcoding after the 
fact on recorded video. (By default, no transcoding occurs.)

For example, most Hauppauge PVR series capture cards output MPEG2 as 
their native format.

However, I'm a little skeptical that it is a video encoding format 
problem, as in my experience mvpmc simply shows a blank screen if it 
can't handle the format. I haven't seen it reset. Although I wouldn't be 
surprised if it did.
