On the topic of menu changes in the MythTV section of mvpmc, here are
some things I'd like to see implemented (and plan to look into
implementing):

Menu position memory. In the MythTV section of mvpmc, when you navigate
up through the menu levels, the cursor is always reset to the top of the
list. In the setup menus, the cursor position is remembered. This could
be a little tricky to implement as the content of the menus can change,
so you can't simply remember an index number. (A related issue is the
way a forced menu refresh occurs a few seconds after a show is deleted.
The delay is long enough that you have time to start navigating
somewhere else, but the refresh resets the cursor position.)

TV/VCR button. VCR's typically had a button labeled TV/VCR that turned
off output from the VCR's video playback or tuner and passed on the RF
input to the output. MVP's don't have passthrough capability, but when
attached to a TV or video switcher that automatically selects active
video sources, you get much the same functionality by turning the video
output on and off. Currently this is done via the power button. I'd like
to see a new button that would pause the current audio/video playback
(if any), and turn off the video output. Pressing the button again turns
on the output and resumes playback. This functionality could be applied
to other mvpmc areas as well.

Multi-layer show hierarchy. Why limit to 2 levels? I could see having
recording group -> category -> show -> episodes, and at each level have
a "all" option (or newest/oldest).

It may not be desirable to treat recording group as a menu where you can
select only one item. To preserve the current filtering functionality,
but make it more accessible, have a "hot key" that brings up the
recording group filter menu from the show browser.

A pop-up menu in the show browser that lets you change the program and
episode sort order and other related settings. For example, if you can
easily change the sort order, there is less need for having both a
"newest" and "oldest" group at the category level. You'd just have "All."

One of the first challenges in implementing several of these will be
finding buttons on the remote that are available or can be repurposed.
I'm open to suggestions.
