Thanks, Steph! This sounds similar to what I was thinking, but you picked up on
the not-quite-declared need to ensure all is preserved.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Mike

Subject: [MLO] Re: Cleaning up and creating new MLO file

Hello Mike,

I need to do the same thing, to cut my file size down and remove my list of
"will never do" tasks, before I start synching to an MLO Cloud subscription.

I'm going to "Save As..." a copy, then reopen the original file and start
cutting out expired branches. I will probably also manually Archive some old
branches (File -> Archive), so I have a journal record of projects I've
finished.

Happy New Year,
Stéphane

Hey folks,

Looking for advice on how best to clean up a very old file and start somewhat
fresh in the new year.

Background: I've been using MLO since ~2009, and have pretty much used the same
MLO file for all this time. I use MLO at work and home (with occasional use of
the iOS app). Since adding a cloud account with v5.0, Sync has always
complained about too many tasks in the profile (Total tasks: 9818, Completed:
4426, Notes (kb): 2681). For the record, I don't think Cloud has ever failed to
sync active tasks. I have AutoArchive set.

What I'd like to do is retire my existing file into an accessible snapshot,
reorganize my outline, move a bunch of stuff into Someday/Maybe and delete
stuff that I am unlikely to do.

I'm probably overthinking this, but since a long weekend is approaching, what I
think I want to do Is:

1. Use File > Save As to rename the existing file (such that it doesn't sync
with MLO Cloud)
2. Perform my cleanup duties
3. Rename the file back to resume sync-ing

Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks,

Mike McCallister
