I agree with you entirely. 802.11x was for domestic use. But 802.11g provided 
more power and bandwidth that, it was used for point to point links for large 
distances. Since, Intel had tight controls over WiMAX initially, none of the 
vendors had WiMAX products. Only 802.11g. That was the reason, why it was 
deployed, not just here in mysore but elsewhere like these places.

The main disadvantage with the 802.11x series is that you have to have a 
directional antenna for medium to large distances, which should be solved by 
the 802.16. As ravi said, the kushalnagar link is about 180 Kms, and the 
latency was about 10ms average.

Thaths,  you have setup a few networks right ? What are you using ?
