Hi,
I currently run a small (12 nodes) small office network. Currently, it
is a windows "workgroup" with the fileserver running win xp. I'd
like to move the fileserver to linux with SAMBA. The fileserver
currently also acts as an internet gateway for all systems on the
network. It would be nice if the lniux server could be set up as an
internet gateway/proxy. Currently, with the network being a windows
"workgroup", there is no primary domain controller. It would be
preferable to set up the fileserver itself as a PDC and
performing authentication functions as well. I also want suggestions
for backup software (Preferably to CDR/CDRW)
The load on the system will be modest, with most files served being < 1 MB office docs.
Can anyone give me tips to implement the changeover? Any expected
pitfalls? What would be the minimum hardware configuration of the
server to handle the load?
Thanks in advance,
Shashanka
