I have IE 5.5 and IE 6 SP1 running perfectly (IE? perfect?) well on
ubuntu breezy and wine 0.9.7 (it was working on wine 0.9.1 onwards)

You can try the sidenet script at http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html
There's a specific script at http://tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/ which
automatically downloads and installs IE 5.5 and IE 6.

Why would you want to install IE on linux? That's because many windows
apps (such as Office) need IE to run. If you want to run any of these
apps through wine, you need IE.
