Ubuntu Live or Ubuntu installed? Im not familiar with Ubuntu at all, really no clue what dapper and hoary and whatever else are... I do remember reading somewhere a long time back that changing the "Protocol" setting from "PS2" to "IMPS2" in xf86config/xorg usually solves any mouse issues... Then again, if I remember right, that was a prescribed remedy for Scroll issues... Couldn't hurt to try, I guess...
