Follow-up Comment #5, bug #14074 (project mypaint):
Testing with xidump (part of linux-wacom if any non-wacom users were
wondering) shows that my the pressure is being reported as ~70 (out of 512)
when not touching the tablet.
xidump also has a "proximity" field, but I've never seen a value there.
Personally I often also have a problem where the driver emits button down,
but never emits button up (seemingly). This leadis to a problem where it
functions normally but no device can click things.
