Follow-up Comment #2, bug #16024 (project mypaint):
Thanks for looking into this and explaining it- actually it seems that there
are issues unrelated to the opaque multiply, and that is that when dragging
windows across the canvas mypaint still draws. Put a brush on, grab the brush
settings box and move it around over the canvas, sometimes there is a lag but
here I get strokes happening.
