messes with the idea of base brushes / parent brushes with local
modifications, but it's still very incomplete:
* Only one level of ancestry (if you can call it that);
* Only works for the brushes-for-tools case (because that's the only one
whose base ManagedBrushes live in the BrushList).
Still, it gives me an idea of how to approach this one.
