Details:
MyPaint uses Itten's color harmonies (complimentary colors are opposed on the
color wheel, etc), but applies them to an HSV color wheel (like in
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hsv_color_circle.svg). That's
incorrect; those rules work only on Itten's RYB color wheel:

A very distinctive difference is that in MyPaint violet is told to be
complimentary to green, while according to Itten's color wheel it's
complimentary to yellow.
