This looks familiar. Does
http://gitorious.org/mypaint/mypaint/commit/6272e1d6c fix it at all?
If you're using someone else's build, you can open up the zipfile, edit
lib/helpers.py and replace the "self.filename" with "filename" on line 152.
Save and repack in the same structure (don't forget to back up library.zip
first).
Alternatively there may be a more recent build for your system at
http://download.gna.org/mypaint/
