Follow-up Comment #1, bug #20639 (project mypaint):
The quick color adjuster (V key) window is very sensitive to micro-usability.
I'm not quite happy with the quick brush selector in that way, and I would
hate to see the color changer popup grow bells and whistles like a mode
selector on top of it, or lose the ability to select with key-down-key-up
without clicking. When I use this one in full-screen, I want to see as little
GUI as possible.
The "three-rings" color popup has its use sometimes, but IMO not enough to
keep maintaining it. The ring sliders are a bit cumbersome to operate, I don't
think many people would miss them.
(About the brush selector: IMO there should be no need for a cancel button,
and having a scroll bar seems a bit heavy-weight already for pop-up. Switching
between brushsets with the arrow keys is very cumbersome. It's like groping
around blindly, to find the flash light you have lost in the dark. And an user
was asking if there was a way to make the brush selector stay on screen
permanently - he didn't realize that the full brush selector even exists.
Maybe the solution could be a tiny button that opens the real selector, and
the popup only ever shows the "favourites" group? just brainstorming now.)
