Yes, you have a point of course. I also read what Krita is doing, throwing overboard everything that is not in the painting workflow on which they are focusing now. > I kind of feel that painting (as opposed to drawing) and animation are > probably about as far away from each other as you can get I disagree slightly. While modern animation means 3D and/or vector based, there is also the "hand drawn animation" which is not far away from painting/sketching. MyPaint is targeting "non-technical painting"; doing an animation hand-drawn, frame-by-frame, fits in well into the "non-technical" concept. (With "non-technical" I mean a very small time spent in GUI interactions other than painting, and easy to get started with.) > [...] MyPaint will soon be filled with hundreds of "features" that are > more or less useless clutter to the majority of users, and that will > quickly turn users off. I hope this will not happen. In the goals on the homepage there is one that I think is especially important: "Advanced features should not grab any attention of users who are happy without them." You certainly will have to enable animation, not turn it off. And you will have to explore the GUI to find it. Maybe not in the master branch during testing, but in the release you should never see the word "animation" during a normal every-day painting workflow. > Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of MyPaint animation, and I think it > does fill another (related) empty niche (sketchbook animation) Sketchbook animation. If it stays in a branch, only a handfull of users (you know who you are :) will be able to find and use it. I think this is a small enough addition to use the existing "distribution channel" to bring it to users. The animation features of MyPaint should stay very basic, of course. Certainly no stuff like exchanging or moving a background plane between frames, probably not even the possibility to change the frame timing. -- Martin Renold _______________________________________________ Mypaint-discuss mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/mypaint-discuss
