Well... nothing wrong with your prototype. But I am not convinced that "lock alpha" is very useful for painting. I have never really tried myself, so it may be just my ignorance. But I know that it causes a lot of confusion for users who are not familiar with what it does. Many programs already have it, but I don't remember any notable use of it in a painting tutorial. A quick google found me only toy examples or image manipulations for logo design and the like.
