We (as a project) should decide what we accept. I think we should not accept both CC-BY and CC-BY-SA content, even if only to reduce the confusion. My favourite (after public domain) is CC-BY. Here are the licences that I personally find acceptable: Public Domain ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Use this if you don't care at all what happens with your work. It is a sure way to put an end to all licensing objections. If some company decides to pick up your work and sell it, they are allowed to do so without even mentioning your name. (Question: would you really care?) - CC-0 Same effect as a simple statement, but better wording. http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/ - WTFPL This is such a simple statement, but worse wording. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTFPL CC-BY 3.0 ^^^^^^^^^ This license mainly ensures that your name will be mentioned somewhere appropriate when your work is being used. Companies can still pick up your work and sell it. This license is not GPL compatible. I don't think this is a problem as long as MyPaint is fully functional without the artwork under question. Exceptions (like those from David Revoy) should be no problem if they only add extra permissions. We should be okay without those exceptions. GPL version 2 or later ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is a code license, but it's acceptable for artwork. It makes some sense for icons and GUI elements that you can't remove without crashing mypaint. I'm assuming everything that was contributed to the MyPaint project without an explicit license was meant to be covered by the GPL, because that's what the project is saying everywhere. Dual-License CC-BY 3.0 and GPLv2 or later ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The perfect license to avoid compatibility discussions. You probably need a statement like this one: This work may be used under any of the following licenses (at your option): - CC-BY-3.0 - GPL version 2 - Any later version of the GPL Anyone knows what licenses other projects are accepting? -- Martin Renold _______________________________________________ Mypaint-discuss mailing list [email protected] https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/mypaint-discuss
