hi americo It represents the point of the "typical" value for the input. When the curve goes through this point, it means that the setting is not modified (curve output is zero) for the "typical" input. For example, at the "typical" pressure that is considered usual (not very hard and not very soft), the brush setting should remain at its base value. Otherwise the base value is very hard to interpret, because all the settings modify it.
Basically, this feature made the curve editor more useful. But only for me. Everyone else is confused, because it turned out almost impossible to understand this when approaching MyPaint only from the GUI side. I also explained it in a forum thread somewhere, try searching for "gray point".
