Hello ,

I am new to this list and have an urgent question because I need to
get my problem fixed ASAP...

Well, I have a web server that hosts a huge number of guestbooks and
other homepage tools based on mysql. Every day approx. 20,000
connections to the mysql server are made and about one or two
million questions are being sent a day. Each connection normally is
closed after 300 ms at most.

I had never problems with the mysql server but now it spontaneously
stops to accept connections (the consequence is certainly that the
guestbooks don't work). Only a server reboot helps.

Anyone can explain me why the server halts at a certain point?
I noticed also that always a mysqld zombie remains in the process list
when the mysql server stops working.

I thought mysql is a very stable database...

The server itself in average is 90% idle, there is plenty of memory
free and there is also enough disk space...

Server version 3.22.21
Protocol version 10
Connection Localhost via UNIX socket
UNIX socket /tmp/mysql.sock

Please, if somebody has ANY idea or solution, I would be very
grateful!!

Best regards,
 Udo
