Don't know much about the licensing but I would say you would need to at
least purchase basic support, which you can then charge to your customer.
However, the customer 50 to 100 times cheaper than Oracle, depending on the
support you purchase.

If you are going to be using a unix based system with mysql, you may want to
look at Chilisoft. It will save you from converting your ASP code, but it
costs, something like a bit under US$1000.

You will also need to look at the functionality of mysql as it is not as
functional as oracles or ms sql as yet. Ie. sub-selects will only be
possible in the next couple of versions. There are other differences as
well.

Subject: Question regarding portability and licence

I am an independent web developer working on a web based application that I
plan on giving to companies to use to track certain activities. I am
currently developing this application using ASP and VB and integrating it
into an MS SQL server. I have some companies using MS SQL, some using ORACLE
and some with nothing. For my Clients with nothing, I was wondering how hard
it would be to port my application to mySQL while maintaining the same
functionality as ORACLE and MS SQL? Furthermore, what License, if any, would
the company need to run mySQL? They would use it on their web server only
(some on Apache some on NT/2000.)

Thanks in advance for your help and your responses....

Waldo B.
