I had a problem like this once with another product on Solaris. It turned
out to be an OS version issue. I had to re-install the OS and back rev it
to Solaris 2.7 instead of 2.8.
This may (or may not) help.

however /usr/local/lib/lib.z.so.1 does exists...and I did NOT create the
mysql:mysql user...
Any suggestions..?
