If you want to unlock a table that is locked by a query then you will
need to kill the thread that executes the query. It's up to you to
decide if that's a 'safe' thing to do. It won't corrupt your tables
but if the query is an update or insert, only part of the updates may
have been performed.
You can find the thread with the 'show processlist' command and kill
it with 'kill' command. There are corresponding parameters to
mysqladmin for these commands.
