DON'T USE SOLARIS TAR! GET GNU TAR!
Sorry for the bit of a blow up there, but I am quite sure that this is well
documented, in big bold red letters on the DOWNLOAD page. And yet we still
get at least 1 person a week that asks this....RTFM people!
