If mysqlserver is not installed on your computer then
first try to connect remote host from mysql client.

mysql -h 192.168.0.1 -u root

if you can connect via this way then
odbc can resposible about this situation.
But i don't think so.
Problem is about permissions to remote clients.

If not problem may be in your DSN configuration.
