I am looking to port an app from an existing web environment to MySQL. The requirement is relatively easy. The Tables are read only and the data is to be only accessed via login & password. The login will give a limited view of records based on a master/detail table relationship. I need to be aware of securing the database and have been told by others that I should look to use PHP.
I know my local bookstore has the following publications (based on asking about MySQL & PHP) Beginning PHP, Apache MySQL Web Development published by Wrox
PHP & MySQL written by Larry Ullmen
I'd recommend this one first (actually he has 2 books on PHP & MySQL, an intro and an advanced version) because it will get you the basics for using PHP and MySQL. You can also finish each one in about a week because it is not that large.
PHP & MySQL Web Development written by Luke Welling & Laura Thomsan
Read this book next because it is quite thorough and will take some time to get through.
