You didn't reply to the list, just to me. If you reply to the list, more people will be able to help you. I'm quite new myself.
You need to set up user accounts. Download an admin program such as MySQL Control Center. Maybe there are better ones, but that's what I use. You can do a lot of stuff with this and save your self from having to type at the command line.

That's it. You had it. x86 refers to the Intel chip family not the operating system. I'm using that quite happily on XP.
