Are you sure?
/usr/local/mysql is a symbolic link to another direcory ( /usr/local/mysql(version).


I think the installer overwrite the symbolic link so if you open a terminal and type:
ls -l /usr/local

Luckily (and unfortunately) we have a backup of that database from last
