upgrade from MySQL 4.0.20 to 4.1 problem

Hi,

I uninstalled MySQL 4.0.20 and installed 4.1 but on client computers I cannot connect to the server. I checked this link:

but I don't know what exactly I should do. can somebody tell me how I should use the old method of password? I need an example in detail.
