To which version have you upgraded exactly? have you installed from ports or a binary version or compiled from source? What configure options have you specified? You may use some recomendations from: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Crashing.html First, enable logging to determine which specific query kills the server. Also with enabled debugging you could find more information from trace files (note that the trace file will become very big!).
