The user does have file privileges but - I just tried running the same script without the password included. Like the following:
"/usr/bin/mysqldump -u user -p db > dbBackup.sql" instead of "/usr/bin/mysqldump -u user -ppassword db > dbBackup.sql" and this worked... so does anyone know what could be the problem with the password here? I really want to include the password in the script as I don't want to be prompted for it at say 3 in the morning when cron runs it. thanks, tait tait sanders computer support technician element IT services information services gold coast campus griffith university 9726 australia e [EMAIL PROTECTED] p +61 07 555 28348 f +61 07 555 29003 ------------------------------------------------------- PRIVILEGED â PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL This email and any files transmitted with it are intended solely for the use of the addressee(s) and may contain information which is confidential or privileged. INTO OUTFILE sounds awfully like a mysqldump :- The FILE privilege gives you permission to read and write files on the server host using the LOAD DATA INFILE and SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE statements. A user who has the FILE privilege can read any file on the server host that is either world-readable or readable by the MySQL server. (This implies the user can read any file in any database directory, because the server can access any of those files.) The FILE privilege also allows the user to create new files in any directory where the MySQL server has write access. Existing files cannot be overwritten. They may well be able to log into mysql but can they actually access that database is more the question.
