Not enough information to make a conlusion. For example this can be a bug: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=6784 Which is fixed in 4.1.8. Send us information about exact version of MySQL that you use, an output of SHOW CREATE TABLE on your tables, a config file, a version of operating system, a sql statement you use.
