Still, MySQL considers release 4.1 as "stable" and hesitates from changes that might break current applications, even if these changes are in general considered "positive". They are rather deferred to development releases like 5.0 than risk problems for customers. So I propose you upgrade to 4.1.11, taking the usual security precautions appropriate for your data.
