wait_timeout

I have the following in the mysqld section of my.cnf:

 

 

set-variable = wait_timeout=360

 

 

everything else in the conf file seems to take but my wait_timeout variable
stays at the default of 28800

 

my version is

 

4.0.20 for apple-darwin6.8

 

 

Any thoughts?
