I ran into a table full situation a couple of days ago, but didn't spot it till last night. I read the advice about altering the pointer-size:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/full-table.html but I neglected to read Jason Collisons comment about backing up my data first. I lost about 50mill records too ...
