I don't quite understand your question. I assume you are interested in the MySQL database engine. The latest production version of MySQL should be fine for this, running on suitable hardware.
The server would not actually be VB6 but I assume you mean that there may be some head office clients written using VB6 that access the same database as used by all the branches. If you give me more details I could offer some more advice.
