Well, as you can see in the first few lines, you have a Permission Denied problem. This means that your /data/ folder doesn't have the write permissions to it via the mysql user. Try running the permission scripts again, but this time use the full shell names. shell> chown -R root /usr/local/mysql/. shell> chown -R mysql /usr/local/mysql/data/. shell> chgrp -R mysql /usr/local/mysql/. Then check to make sure that user has write permission to the folders: shell> ls -l /usr/local/mysql/data It should say something similar to: shell> ls -l /usr/local/mysql/data total 63868 drwx------ 2 mysql mysql <size> <date> <dirname> -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql <size> <date> <filename>-bin.000 . . -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql <size> <date> <hostname>.err J.R.
