mysql on raid 1 or raid 5?

hi all,

currently, i have a machine with raid 1 and raid 5 (backplane). in order 
to boost up the mysql performance, does it advise install /var/ (mysql 
data directory) into raid 1 or raid 5? please advise. thanks
