OK. I thought about that earlier, but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to adapt it to this particular problem.
Do you think the "automated tree traversal" method described at the link you posted... http://www.sitepoint.com/article/hierarchical-data-database/2 ...is the only one that would work? I've never been able to get that to work. But I do have a working copy of the "adjacency" model, described at http://www.sitepoint.com/article/hierarchical-data-database It sounds like they do the same thing, but one is a little more efficient than the other.
