I'm not a Solaris or DBD guru, so I could be wrong, but ldd output doesn't show that mysql.so loads libmysqlclient (however, it can be statically linked). There could be some problems with compiling MySQL clients which described more in detail at: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/solaris.html http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/perl-support-problems.html I've found a bit similar issue related to building php-mysql extension on MySQL forums. The person declares that he has solve the problem.
