MySQL is in fact, as you said, a backend database.  Forms, reports, labels,
those are all done client side.  If you do not want to develop your own
client application, I suggest using Mascon (if you have some windows
clients) available at: www.scibit.com.  I have found it to be a VERY nice
client application for windows users.  It even has a report designer built
in, and I would assume it could do labels just by knowing dimensions :)

Search around a bit, there are a ton of MySQL client programmers out there.
Just try to find something that does what you want it to do.
