Hi! I installed mysql 3.23 a while ago and all was well. Recently there was some activity on my Windows ME computer, in which someone uninstalled mysql and then tried putting it back and then (just for good measure. . .) managed to get into privileges and eliminate localhost (or so it appears) from the user table. This means that I can't connect to change privileges back to what they once were. I get a 10061 error number coming up and the message "Can't connect to MySql server on localhost". I tried deleting the data directory so that upon reinstallation it would rebuild the default priv table. It didn't work; I still get the error mentioned above. I tried installing MySql in another directory and it still seems to be accessing "something" that indicates that the user table has been mucked up and I get the usual "Can't connect" message mentioned above. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? How can I truly expunge MySql from the system so I can actually start again with a default data directory?
