Look at the bin folder of the musql installation.

Who is the owner of the folder and its files?

Are you starting mysqld as root or as a super user?

Does your Linux user id have group rights to user mysqld or other mysql 
software?

These are just a few FYI questions.

*Any idea what to do????*
