No idea on the cause, but sitting with the exact same issue on 1 specific MyISAM table on mysql-5.1.50
Since the table was created it never had any change in data structure, the table is almost exclusively INSERTs and it is quite big in my instance however. Table crashes on average every 2 to 3 days for no apparent reason what so ever, and everytime it repairs successfully... -- Chris.
