Maybe the application doesn't have support for connection pooling and can't be easily replaced. Maybe there's just that much clients instead of a central service. Maybe there's not just a single application that uses that database. As usual, Harald, you fail to realise that your experience does not encompass the whole of human civilisation. You seem to have a good technical background, but it might be useful to learn to consider problems from the point of view of the people who have them, at times.
